Frequently Asked Questions

What does Track Changes Heatmap add-in do?

Track Changes Heatmap is a Microsoft Word add-in that visually maps all tracked edits, comments, authors, and footnotes across your document using a color-coded heatmap. It helps you instantly identify where the most edits and feedback are located, instead of manually scrolling through each page.

Drowning in tracked changes? This tool cuts through the noise and gives you a bird’s-eye view of every edit in seconds — no scrolling required.

After installing the add-in, how do I use it?

Once installed, open Microsoft Word and go to the Review tab. You’ll find the Track Changes Heatmap add-in in the toolbar.

Click the add-in, and then select "Connect with Microsoft" to verify your license and start using it.

What's the benefit of using this add-in?

This add-in provides a faster, clearer, and more accountable way to review documents:

  • Faster reviews. Immediately see where the most activity occurred.
  • Accountability. Filter by author, comment, or last edit time to verify changes.
  • Audit-ready exports. Generate CSV summaries for billing, tracking, or compliance.
  • Stay in Word. No need to export or use another tool; it all happens in Word.
What about data security and compatibility?

Your documents never leave your device. The add-in runs entirely inside Microsoft Word, using Office JS APIs. Nothing is sent or stored remotely, except minimal account data used to verify your license tier.

  • No document content is ever uploaded or shared.
  • No third-party trackers or analytics are used.
  • Compatible with Word for Windows, Mac, and Word Online.
  • Fully compliant with data minimization and privacy best practices: No personally identifiable content from your Word documents is ever accessed or processed. We do not use cookies, behavioral profiling, or analytics scripts of any kind. All data access is secured using modern encryption protocols (TLS 1.2 or higher and AES-256).
How does billing work via Microsoft AppSource?
All payments are processed by Microsoft through AppSource. When you subscribe, you’ll choose either monthly or annual billing. Your plan renews automatically each period using the payment method on file in your Microsoft account.
What’s the difference between monthly and annual billing?
Monthly billing charges you each month at the displayed rate. Annual billing charges you once per year at a 13% discount, so you save compared to paying month-to-month.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel at any time via your Microsoft account’s Subscriptions page. After cancellation, your access continues until the end of the current billing period. After that, if your subscription expires, the add-in automatically reverts to the free tier (1,500-word limit).
Do you offer refunds or prorated credits?
Refunds and prorated credits are handled by Microsoft in accordance with their AppSource policies. If you cancel or downgrade your subscription within the initial cancellation window (typically 72 hours for SaaS or 7 days for license-based subscriptions), you may be eligible for a full or prorated refund. After that period, changes to your subscription, such as downgrading or reducing licenses, do not automatically result in credits or refunds. Please refer to Microsoft’s commercial marketplace refund policy for full details.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan anytime from your Microsoft account’s Subscriptions page. Microsoft will process the change, and in some cases may apply a prorated charge or credit, depending on the timing and plan type. For full details, refer to Microsoft’s commercial marketplace policies.
What happens if I run out of my word limit?
If you exceed your plan’s limit (1,500 free, 9,500 premium), further pages won’t render until you upgrade. You can still use the add-in but only up to your limit.
